The TRACE project aimed at increasing the transparency of competencies and skills among EU countries, regions and sectors, and to foster the uptake and adoption of eLearning through a better understanding of the competencies-related challenges that still exist in the eLearning sector. TRACE developed, implemented and tested a coherent, systemic framework for the transparency and interoperability of competences systems in the European knowledge-based societies. In this way it contributed to the mobility of European citizens and professionals and to the increased efficiency of the European knowledge and labour markets. The framework for the comparison of competences provides a seamless infrastructure in Europe for learning and professional development services in the context of work-based learning and the overall lifelong learning perspective necessary to support future societies.
